S.G.N.D. Khalsa College has a long and illustrious tradition in sports dating back from its very inception. Some of the aimsthat the Department of Physical Education strives to achieve are to evolve students in a wholesome manner through physical activities and develop their knowledge of movement and safety along with their ability to use this knowledge to perform wide range of activities associated with healthy lifestyle.Traditionally individual games had an edge over team games, with the institution winning national laurels in both weight-lifting and power-lifting, but now the college excels both in the individual and team games. Many of our students have represented Delhi University in North Zone Intervarsity Championships and All India Intervarsity in various games.

  • In 2006 that the College appeared in the international arena through the exploits of Rohit Bhakar in the field of badminton who won Arjuna Award for his achievements in the special category.
  • One of the games in which the college team has especially excelled is Track-and-Field-events where the institution has proved to be a wholesome nursery of the budding athletes. One of the outstanding athletes to come out of this nursery is Lalit Mathur, an athlete of international repute with NMR in 400 meters in All India Inter-University Athletic Championship, Manglore. He has also participated in Commonwealth Games-2014-15,Glasgow,World University Games-2015-16, Gwangju , South Korea, and is the recipient of silver medal inNational Games Kerela-2015-16. Other team events in which the college is doing better include Cricket, Football, Hockey,Base-ball, Soft-ball, Hand-ball & Volleyball.
  • The college has managed to secure first positions from last two years in Inter-college Athletic meet and inter-college Cross-Country.
  • Our Hand-ball team has been a runners-up for the last two years in the Inter-college Hand-ball championship.
  • In 2015, the college introduced Baseball for the first time and managed to secure third position in the Inter-college Baseball championship.





 The Annual Sports Day of SGND Khalsa College, in collaboration with the National Cadet Corps (2 Delhi BN NCC) was held at Thyag Raj Sports Complex, New Delhi on March 4, 2016. It was a highly anticipated event by all the students and teachers and its success was a moment of satisfaction and joy for one and all. The event was indeed spectacular and witnessed a wide participation of students across the college. Under the able guidance of Dr. Rajwant Singh (Assistant Professor, Physical Education Department, SGND Khalsa College) and Dr. Inder Preet Singh (Associate Professor, Department of Commerce/ Sports Committee Convener), the event was hailed as a major success with students being able to connect with a range of games held under the aegis of Sports Day.

The highlight of the event was the Inaugural Ceremony which indeed brought all the teachers and students together not just in their love for the college but also the values represented by it- hard-work, efficiency, resilience of spirit and true sportsmanship. The Inaugural Ceremony begun with the recitation of the Shabad by the Divinity students of the college and also the welcoming of the dignitaries by the respected Principal of the college, Dr. Manmohan Kaur. The list of dignitaries was certainly overwhelming and added to the breathtaking spirit of the event. The function was graced by the presence of Sd. M.P.S. Chadha (Senior Vice President, Delhi Sikh Gurudwara Management Committee), Sd. Ravinder Singh Khurana (Former Chairman of SGND Khalsa College/ Member, DSGMC) and Ms. Mandeep K. Bakshi (President, Women Wing, SAD).

The occasion became special due to the presence of the Chief Guest, the illustrious Ms. Asha Aggarwal. She has been an alumnus of the University of Delhi and the winner of the prestigious Arjuna award while also being the former champion of the Indian Women’s Marathon and also securing championship to the events like the 1985 Hong Kong Marathon. Her inspiring words to the students were indeed a testimony to the struggle and patience and its contribution to the story of success. Other Guests of honor included Col. V.N. Thapar and Ms. Tripta Thapar (the proud parents of Captain Vijayant Thapar, the braveheart of the 1999 Kargil War and alumnus of SGND Khalsa College) and Major General G.D. Bakshi (SM, VSM); a veteran of counter- terrorist operations in Jammu & Kashmir and Punjab.

All the dignitaries and Guests of Honor addressed the students and the gathering and their words were indeed a source of inspiration. The sports events had begun since 8.30 A.M. at different venues across the stadium (outdoor and indoor) and consisted of games like Table Tennis Singles (Boys/ Girls), Badminton Singles (Boys/ Girls), Basketball (Boys/Girls), Volley ball (Boys) and Mini Football (Boys). The second half of the event witnessed an equal enthusiastic participation of students in events like Football Penalty Shootout, Athletic events, Races and exciting games like the Tug of War. This turned to be an extremely exciting set of events with participation from both teachers and students.

The event became a grand success due to an equal amount of sportsmanship and physical agility displayed by both students and teachers. There were some games played by the faculty members like Musical chairs, Basketball and Lucky draw. All the staff members including the Principal, Dr. Manmohan Kaur and Vice Principal, Dr. Davinder Chawla participated in the events sportingly adding to the vibrancy of various events. In addition, the NCC Cadets, representing the spirit of different colleges, also displayed their skills through a range of events like Guns Display, Commando Training and Guards Drill.  

The event concluded with the Prize Distribution Ceremony by respected Principal and Vice Principal and the winners were applauded. The students indeed learnt to combine the importance of physical resilience and sportsman spirit as well as will power under the brilliant guidance of Dr. Rajwant Singh (Assistabt Professor, Department of Physical Education) and coordination of Dr. Inder Preet Singh (Sports Committee Convener) and Dr. Vinayneet Kaur. It turned to be a huge success and an unforgettable event for the students and teachers.
