Student Union Election

Following the recommendations of Lyngdoh Committee Report, which have been duly accepted by the Hon’ble Supreme Court of India, Student Council of the college is elected annually through a democratically sound and viable process. Apart from the nominations for the posts of President, Vice-President, Secretary, Joint-Secretary, and Treasurer, there are two posts for Central Council Members for which students are nominated from the First Year. The code of conduct put into place by Lyngdoh Committee is followed in letter and spirit for both College and Delhi University Student Union (DUSU) Elections which take place simultaneously.

The role of Faculty, as Student Advisory Committee, in conducting free and fair Elections is quite crucial. This committee looks after the entire process beginning with the nominations and subsequent withdrawals before the elections, and concluding with counting of votes to declare the winners. During the entire process they are also charged with the responsibility of observing discipline for the entire duration of the elections.

The level of autonomy of Student Council is established in their manner of pursuing individual and collective interests of the students while functioning as the interface between the Administration, Faculty, and the students. These elected representatives work closely with the members of Advisory Committee and Principal without compromising their independence of thought or conduct. This elected body also plays an active role in the vibrant cultural life of the college by organizing Surlok, the three-day Annual College Fest, as well as the Farewell party for the Final Year students. Funding for these activities comes through Student Union Fund, sponsorships, advertisements etc., and fosters a culture of initiation and participation among these young leaders who gain valuable experience of executing their responsibilities by organizing mega events.
